Loved for a lifetime with Dogs Trust’s Canine Care Card

From learning their favourite treat, to discovering the perfect country blues album that sends them drifting off to squirrel-filled dreams, it’s hard to imagine that anyone else could care for our dogs like we can.

With our health being in the forefront of all our minds, we imagine that many dog owners might be wondering what would happen to their four-legged friend if they became seriously ill or passed away. Dogs Trust wants to give dog parents some reassurance with the Canine Care Card; a completely free service that guarantees the devoted Dogs Trust team will be there to care for your dog if you can no longer look after them.

Making provisions for your four-legged friend

When you sign up to a Canine Care Card, Dogs Trust will go to lengths to make sure they understand your dog’s character and needs, and care for them as the individuals that they are. When you apply for a Canine Care Card, you’ll have lots of opportunity to tell us everything we need to know about your dog. Dogs Trust’s dedicated canine carers will go above and beyond to help your dog to settle into their rehoming centres and give them all the care and support they need to get back on their paws and find them a new home.

Changing the tale for Max and Wills

First adopted from Dogs Trust in 2014, Yorkshire Terriers Max and Wills lived with their adoring owners until they sadly passed away. Max and Wills’ owners had signed up for a Canine Care Card and, with the help of their family, Dogs Trust were able to take the couple’s beloved dogs back into their care. After a short stay at Snetterton rehoming centre, Max and Wills were rehomed together.

Their new owners absolutely adore the pair of them, saying “Max and Wills are a blessing and we are very happy that they chose us. They have settled in extremely well and are a joy. They make us smile every day.”

Here for dogs and the people who love them

No matter what your personal circumstances are, Dogs Trust are always here to help dog lovers do best by pooches. If you need help or advice, Dogs Trust are just a phone call away. If you’d like to sign up for a Canine Care Card, it’s quick and easy to do. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Choose someone you trust to be your Dog Guardian, so that if you pass away or become seriously ill, they can sign over ownership of your dog to Dogs Trust on your behalf. Make sure you ask them first as you’ll need to provide us with their contact details
  2. Complete the online application form. Have the contact details of your chosen dog guardian and your dog’s microchip number handy before you begin.
  3. We recommend that, if possible, you leave instructions in your Will confirming that you would like Dogs Trust to look after your dog. This will help to ensure that your last wishes are fulfilled. The suggested wording is, “It is also my wish that Dogs Trust cares for and/or rehomes my dog at the time of my death.”
